JAKARTA (IndoTelko) – Marine Vessel Power Plant Karadeniz Powership Yasin Bey has been operating in Ambon since 1 April 2017. The 120 MW Powership is supplying electricity to the electrical interconnected system in Maluku region.

COD (Commercial Operation Date) of Yasin Bey Powership has started on 1 April 2017 and immediately been fully operational since then.

The entire administration and security preparation is already resolved to support the operational of the Powership, from connecting to the electric power grid until generating electricity.

“Kar Powership cooperates with PLN to ensure the fast synchronization, so this project can operate immediately, therefore it can distribute electrical power to the entire people who live in Ambon region,” said Ufuk Berk, in Jakarta, on Thursday (13/4).

Ufuk added that Yasin Bey is the third Powership which is actively operating in Indonesia after Zeynep Sultan which has been operated in Amurang, North Sulawesi and Gökhan Bey in Bolok, Kupang.

“In addition, there will be two other Powerships that will be delivered to Belawan (North Sumatra) with the largest size and capacity of 240 MW and also to Lombok (West Nusa Tenggara) with the power capacity of 60 MW,” said Ufuk.

Yasin Bey, similar to other Powerships such as Gökhan Bey and Zeynep Sultan, is capable of providing cheaper electrical power because the engine is more efficient and can operate with HFO (Heavy Fuel Oil), which is way much cheaper than HSD (High Speed Diesel). Apart from that, the ship is also flexible in terms of fuel because it can operate with both LNG and HFO. This flexibility will help PLN to optimize the energy assimilation.

One of the most important aspects is the Powership does not need an external power supply (black start), so the technology is well suited to supplying electrical power to the islands which have electrical load fluctuation issue.

Yasin Bey is operated by PT Kar Powership Indonesia, a subsidiary of Karpower International in Turkey. PT Kar Powership is also committed to continue investing in Indonesia, and will enhance the role and capability of local community.

PT Kar Powership Indonesia is the subsidiary of Karpowership, the sole owner, operator and builder of the first Powership (floating power plant) in the world. Since 2010, thirteen Powerships have been completed with a total installed capacity exceeding 2,700 MW. Additional Powership with the capacity of 5,000 MW is under construction or in waiting line process.

The Powership has supplied 15% electrical power for Southern Iraq, 27% of Lebanon territory, 22% of Ghana region, 16% for Zambia, 31% of North Sulawesi region, 54% East Nusa Tenggara, 100% Ambon Indonesia, with total electricity network in Indonesia from three Powerships which are scheduled to spread across Indonesian archipelago within the first quarter of 2017.

To this day, Karadeniz has more than 2.000 employees and continues to grow through renewable energy, the Powership and other innovative energy supply solutions.(es)
