Indonesian Line of Business Leading the Transformative IT Charge

JAKARTA (IndoTelko) – The IT industry globally is in the midst of a once every 20-25 year shift to a new technology platform for growth and innovation.

Dubbed as the 3rd platform, built on mobile devices and applications, cloud services, mobile broadband network, big data analytics and social technologies, it is re-shaping the way businesses function.

Recent data received by International Data Corporation (IDC) Indonesia suggests that Indonesian Line-of-Business (LoBs) units are driving a change, ear-marking the need for efficiency and optimization, as well as the creation of new process flows to help them in achieving stipulated business goals.

"All this leads us to assume one thing, which Indonesian enterprises are looking at IT as a transformative element in their organization shifting away from traditional IT spending towards 3rd platform technology spending", says Sudev Bangah, Country Director of IDC Indonesia.

Statistics have shown that more than 40% of Indonesian enterprises have embarked on this transformative technology journey, with 54% of enterprises citing the expansion of their datacenter as a basic ICT spending need by 2015.

However, while more than half of enterprises interviewed cited this, the activity is not met without challenges. IDC Indonesia's data further shows that the meaning of "transformative" is sometimes shallow in nature, and has found that close to 20% of these enterprises lack the understanding of new technologies and manners of which to transform their datacenter.

Survey data has shown that close to 70% of enterprises keep an in-house datacenter, and have done nothing more than add racks and servers since its inception, with very little thought towards the future.

By 2015, IDC Indonesia anticipates that constant constraints of skill sets, rising cost, and the need to future proof their facilities will lead enterprises to develop a concerted plan for evolving their datacenter, with the involvement of both IT and business stakeholders from strategy to management.(es)
